It's probably different at every facility, and the CO processing you ....at Logan, they take your card and write down the number on that little sheet where they record your info.....I asked them why , he said "to ensure that these cards are not being passed around, each visitor is required to purchase their own cards "......sigh......so I suppose the one I have won't be any good for anyone who has a LO at Logan now.......

JDs Mom, there should be no reason why you can't give that to someone if you no longer need it.  I doubt highly that they keep track of the cards and who they belong to.  I'm assuming it was tracked only for the visit that day.

No, each individual prison utilizes their own vending service.

Don't get rid of that card until you check what vending service they use at Robinson.  Four yeas ago my vending card at Robinson was the same vendor at another prison nearby...I can't remember which one though....maybe things have changed but there are some that use the same service....they used to have a great vendor at Robinson...fresh fruit bowls, White Castles, cappuchino...lots of good sandwiches and fresh items...

Well, I went to visit at Robinson the 5th & 6th and my vending card from Big Muddy did not work, same company but different color, when put in the machine to add money it said "invalid". I was told they dont interchange, go figure. If anyone with a L/O at Big Muddy can use it let me know, it has over $10 on it. Otherwise the drive from Northern Il is a long one to that location too. Shorter mileage but same time due to more county roads than intersate......but worth the trip for sure...

At Pinckneyville I just purchased the card from the machine, no one wrote my information down, so if my L/O transfers someone walking in the door to visit is going to get lucky. I bought it and I will give it to whoever I want.

You have to buy the card on your first visit, so bring extra $$$'s for this, they are around $5 and once you have the card, you then put $$$ on it, to buy things from the vending machine during your visit.  You cannot get any money back off the card, if your loved one is ever transferred, so don't put more than you'll use at one time on it.

I have had trouble (error readings) on cards a few times during the last 10 years.  Then you have no card for food.  That is a horrinble situation.  Since then, we carry two cards,  Split the amount you were going to put on, such as $10 on each.  Yes, you do have to pay a few dollars for the cards, but it is like an insurance policy so that if one gets an error, you still have the other.  The first time we ended up with no working card was on Christmas.  That was soooooo horrible that we swore it would never happen again.

When you put the card into the machine, it just says "error"  usually something wrong with the card....you can turn the card into the vending machine company, and they will refund the money to your inmate's account...it takes a while but that is the way it happened for us.  humbird

I'm guessing the magnetic strip will wear out over time, with use, just like a credit/debit card.  I think next time I visit I'm going to get a 2nd card just to be on the safe side.

I was visiting today notice the signs... that the present debit will not be usable after May 1, they are changing vendors in Graham CC. So if you keep money on it use it because it stated no refunds..Thought would pass it on
