Earned Discretionary Sentence Credit
« on: February 27, 2019, 08:31:23 PM »
I Sent the following to John Howard Associates of Illinois

Jennifer Vollen-Katz

The JHA           February 27,  2019

I remember a scathing article you penned last September concerning Earned Discretionary Sentencing Credits (EDSC).  More to the point, “IDOC appears not to have taken any action to implement EDSC and award discretionary credits to deserving prisoners, frustrating the Law’s intent.” (Public Act 100-0575).

As you know, that act spells out in Section 3-4-3 Rules and Regulations for Sentence Credit, (a) (3.5).  The Department shall provide annual written reports to the Governor and General Assembly on the reward of sentence credit no later than February 1 of each year The Department must publish these reports on their website within 48 hours of transmitting the reports to the Governor and the General Assembly with the first report due Jan 1, 2014. One report would be for credits from schooling, etc..  The other report is for “earned sentence credit” issued at the discretion of the Director. We would like to know if the “Department” complied for 2018, and if you plan on making comments on the situation?  If the report was written, how would we obtain a copy?

On another topic, do you have an opinion on whether Gov. JB Pritzker plans on replacing Acting Director Baldwin?  We know some wardens will be replaced as “political” appointments.  It happened 4 years ago. And will happen again.

Thank you for your consideration.                        willied

Respectfully
William Oliver Deere

Willied,

Just curious to know if you ever received an answer from JHA? Thanks,
