He told me I could visit him the day before, so I think I'll plan the pickup that way.  I haven't been able to visit him since November last year due to family problems and he's beeen transferred even further away.  That way, I'll be somewhat familar with the whole thing...  Still, I'm all scared.  I have backup drivers already set up.

Yikes, I'm up near the Wisconsin border, I hate driving in snow, or for that matter, even rain.  I should live in Miami, but I have to go get him...  My son is more than willing to get him home.  He said he'll drive me...
I'm just hoping it's one of those clear sunny winter days.  With my luck, it will be another blizzard...

Had a visit from PO last week our home has been approved which makes us very happy. Got a question, why in the world would I have to have my dogs micro chipped? I know it is a good idea to do it anyway but my boxer is 12 1/2 years old don't know how much longer she is going to be around and my border collie does not go running the streets, she is on a leash at all times. The PO said that he doesn't have a problem with the dogs they just have to be fixed and micro chipped and to tell you the truth I was too nervous and excited to ask him why. So if anyone knows what this law is all about I would love more info. Thanks

I cannot believe this either, their is a law about felons having certain dogs, but these dogs don't sound like they are going to give anyone problems.

Certain felons cannot own, posses, have custody of or reside in a residence with either an unspayed or unnueterd dog or puppy older than 12 weeks or a dog determined to be vivious under Section 15 of Animal Control Act.  Any dog owned or possessed by, or in your custody must be microchiped for permanent identification.  Anyone convicted of violating this  is Guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.

(720 ILCS 5/12‑36)
Sec. 12‑36. Possession of certain dogs by felons prohibited.
    (a) For a period of 10 years commencing upon the release of a person from incarceration, it is unlawful for a person convicted of a forcible felony, a felony violation of the Humane Care for Animals Act, a felony violation of Article 24 of the Criminal Code of 1961, a felony violation of Class 3 or higher of the Illinois Controlled Substances Act, a felony violation of Class 3 or higher of the Cannabis Control Act, or a felony violation of Class 2 or higher of the Methamphetamine Control and Community Protection Act, to knowingly own, possess, have custody of, or reside in a residence with, either:
        (1) an unspayed or unneutered dog or puppy older than
     12 weeks of age; or

        (2) irrespective of whether the dog has been spayed
or neutered, any dog that has been determined to be a vicious dog under Section 15 of the Animal Control Act.

    (b) Any dog owned, possessed by, or in the custody of a person convicted of a felony, as described in subsection (a), must be microchipped for permanent identification.
    (c) Sentence. A person who violates this Section is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.
    (d) It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under this Section that the dog in question is neutered or spayed, or that the dog in question was neutered or spayed within 7 days of the defendant being charged with a violation of this Section. Medical records from, or the certificate of, a doctor of veterinary medicine licensed to practice in the State of Illinois who has personally examined or operated upon the dog, unambiguously indicating whether the dog in question has been spayed or neutered, shall be prima facie true and correct, and shall be sufficient evidence of whether the dog in question has been spayed or neutered. This subsection (d) is not applicable to any dog that has been determined to be a vicious dog under Section 15 of the Animal Control Act.

I had a P/O visit the first part of August, for pending parole in Jan 2012. Do they usually tell you that you have been approved or what. Mine said nothing just went over the agreement and had me sign it. How long does it take to be approved for the home site? My L/O has heard nothing from his counselor either. Just wondering if anyone can calm my nerves with some info. Thanks

If you already signed the agreement for him to parole to your home, you can pretty much know you have been approved, that's why they come out, to kinda look over things.  Your son will go to Pre-Start classes (Parole School) sometime in the future where he will receive more instructions/information.   Your countdown is on, Congrats!!

You are welcome, just know that if you have anything in your home that can be considered contraband, to get rid of it now, before your son paroles home, otherwise there could be a problem.

We are down to (after today), 15 days & a wake up. I'm beyond nervous on many different levels. He comes home on a Friday, do POs visit on weekends or will it be more likely the beginning of the next week?

jenplus2....my B has the same outdate as your l/o.  I, too, am nervous on so many levels.  And why are the days and nights beginning to go slower and slower?  Grrr!

The PO has to come within 72 hours whether it is the weekend or not.

jcruz1104...good point!!!  They are supposed to come within 72 hours but if they don't, the parolee cannot leave until they do come.

I laughed about not making plans for a few days.  We have made plans but they are all about staying home, grilling out and staying in bed!  I have told family to not come knocking on the door.  These first few days are our time!  Heehee!

Bobsgirl, I completely understand the days (& nights) slowing to a crawl. I haven't had a good night's sleep in awhile. My nerves have up & left me, ugh! As for plans? Oh, we made some but they have NOTHING to do w/leaving the house ;~D heehee!

Also, Bob's? How long has it been? We've served 21 months. Should have been 27, but my baby busted his butt to get home. Mah, I'm sorry my posts are split. My POS phone only allows so many characters. Might throw it out the window & see if it can fly, lol
