Loss of LINK benefits while in IDOC
« on: May 17, 2018, 03:43:37 PM »
My LO was set to be discharged in June, but now they've extended his release to July. He's been in since January and his SNAP link monthly benefits have been building up. My question is when he is released will his SNAP benefit still be active with so much inactivity for almost 5 months. There is quite a buildup of fund in the account now. And when it is time for the SNAP to renew, do they take in consideration the individual was in prison and unable to use the benefit?  Sure would love to get insight on this; have inquired at LINK and cant get an answer, and I'm sure there have been others in this predicament. Thanks.

Is snap link food stamps?
I had to go to a prison to find a man who treats me right!

You cannot receive SNAP benefits while incarcerated. His best bet is to immediately go to a public aid office when he gets out and let them sort it out. If and when they find out he was incarcerated and used the benefits he'll be cut off and have to pay back what he wasn't supposed to get.

For the record, while he's been incarcerated snap benefits have not been used, which was my question since there is a buildup of funds not being used and I wanted to know what happens when he is released.
