Dixon Spring and Statesville. Please Help
« on: April 24, 2017, 11:26:27 PM »
My fiancé is going to dixson springs. But, first he has to go to statesville to be shipped to dixson. How long could he stay in statesville before leaving to dixson? What should he be expecting from both. What should I prepare myself for. Please help me because I've been freaking out... and I don't know what to do or think or how to help him

The time spent in receiving varies for all of us, receiving is the hardest part of this journey, in my opinion. Try to prepare yourselves for this, usually there are no phone calls or visits, write a letter to him now, include all of the contact information for anybody that he may need to put on his lists, like phone lists and visitor lists. Mail can take 3 weeks (sometimes more) to get to him. Once he is in IDOC's system and his inmate number is posted on his profile, you can mail him letters, magazine & books (check the thread for stateville receiving to be certain of restrictions like hard cover or paperback and rules for magazines) - all correspondence has to have his full name, inmate number and address of the facility, your return address needs your full name and address. Search for things not allowed through mail, there are some seemingly silly rules, but they exist for a reason. No stickers, no crayons, no perfume, etc. Usually the inmates receive packages faster than regular mail, so if you can put a few items in a priority mail box, that may expedite getting them to him.

There are rules about boot camp that I am not familiar with, find the threads on here about them. You can usually search in the upper right corner of the home page for whatever you are wanting to read about.

Usually, while in receiving, the guys are on lockdown - basically, they will share a cell with another inmate and only be called out for the various classification things they do there, while in receiving, my husband had appointments with different people, including medical appointments - this is part of the process. If I recall correctly from things I've read about it, they keep the inmates bound for bootcamp separated from the others. Most important is to let your fiancé know, don't react, to officers or other inmates, keep his head down and be respectful to everybody. Emotions run high and fights break out rather easily and officers talk to each other and superiors, everything is documented - just keep remembering - this too shall pass.

I'm sorry you are going through this, you will get through it though, we are all stronger than we think.
He's home!

Thank you, I will make sure he knows to not start fights or anything. I heard that he is deprecated from the rest and that he could stay in statesville for up to 3 months before shipping out to dixson... will I be able to visit him while he is in statesville?

Your LO will go through receiving, given physicals and other testing to see if he is eligible for Boot Camp.  If he passes all these requirements, when a bed opens up at the camp he is go to, he will be moved, possibly to the parent prison first and then into the camp.

Just take a big breath and relax, this could take up to a month or so, continue to write him and let him know you support him.  Once he is camp, you have to be careful what you write, you'd do yourself good to go tour bootcamp board and read up so you basically know what is going to happen and other things by the time he gets there.
