Securus Tech - New IDOC Phone Service
« on: December 29, 2012, 04:40:15 PM »
Hi....I was told today by my son, that Securus will be handling the inmate calls as 1/3/13. We have to call them to set up an account. I did call....it was automated, had to do a passcode, and was told it would be the same as it was on Consolidated, but I don't recall having one for them. I couldn't ask about money being transferred because it was automated....I have sent an email to both places about this...no reply yet. I had to put money on the account....I put 50.00 and they charged 6.95 for doing so!!  At the end of the call I was told the calls will now be coming through their account. This is all I know for now, but just wanted to give a "heads up" to you all.....hope I haven't confused you to much.  Their telephone to call is
1-800-844-6591.  I will be calling both places on Monday.....that should be fun!  I don't do well with these types of changes....
Yesterday he helped me, today he did the same!
How long will he continue? Forever....Praise his name!

I'm just hoping that they continue to do direct billing.  I really don't want to prepay, I'm horrible with remembering when it needs money.

Here is a copy of the an email I received from consolidate....I had written them concerning a refund when Securus does take over.....

We are the contract holder as of now.  When and if that change takes place,
we will refund your money.

Thank you

In my experience, jail calls are more expensive than prison calls. Really hope that's not the case when the switch over takes place.

And $6.95 to add money??!!!! That's ridiculous! I wonder if they will have the option to mail a payment in like Consolidated has.

If you go to this link on Securus site and scroll down the drop down on facilities  names, some IDOC prisons are already listed, you can check the rate of calls to your # from those prisons :

Wow!!!   if I did that correctly, a 30 minute call from big muddy or centralia to Chicago is $4.10 compared to $9.63 with consolidated.............   I hope this is true!!!!    :wc7:

Mine showed $4.10, too, but then there was a clause about connection fees and taxes, etc.  I don't have much hope that the calls will be that cheap, but would love to be pleasantly surprised!

I tried my number with the locations IDOC has listed so far.  It shows as $4.10 also and I am out of state.  It looks like it's a flat base rate and I am hoping the taxes aren't ridiculous.  I wonder when all of IDOC will be switched over.  I'm trying to be prepared for when Dixon switches.

My son calls my house to talk to his children.  We try to get here before he calls, wait until he gets to use the phone and then pray the connection is good.  I understand I can get him a phone card from Securus that I can put money on or he can use his money to load to card ( I think he can ) and he can use the card to call numbers that he has been approved to call.

If this happens to be true it will save us a lot of time and trouble to make sure we have contact.  Guess I will have to wait and see.

I'm getting $4.10 as well. But that $6.95 fee to add money is still crazy.

I saw Big Muddy on there. It's listed under "I" as IL DOC BIG MUDDY RIVER CORR CENTER.

I thought I was supposed to put in the state I live in, which is Kentucky. Guess the area code would tell them that. I did find it after putting in IL. THanks again.

Well it looks at if Secure is doing some big changes for IDOC I just called and I was told that I would only pay $4.10 for a call but they are not aware how long you will be able to talk yet it is up to the facility and they are not sure how much the taxes will be. Now that part makes me wonder.

I guess we will see soon.
