Officials are searching for a Chicago man who along with another inmate escaped Sunday from an Illinois state prison facility in southern Illinois.

The inmate from Chicago, Kevin Rivera. 20, of the 1900 block of North Kedvale Avenue escaped the Dixon Springs Impact Incarceration Program, according to Illinois Department of Corrections officials.

Along with Rivera, Jerrette D. Reed, 25, who was sentenced in Randolph County also escaped, according to officials.

According to officials, the two men were reported missing from the facility at 5:50 p.m.

The two men were last seen wearing an orange T-shirt and blue pants with a yellow stripe along the sides.

Rivera is serving a five year sentence for the manufacture and delivery of cocaine. He pleaded guilty to the charge on Aug. 12, in Skokie.

Reed is serving a three year sentence on meth-related charges.

Officails said that while both men were incarcerated for non-violent crimes officials are advising people to use caution and contact authorities immediately if they spot the duo. IDOC officials said they are working with local authorities to locate and apprehend the men.

These two will now be charged with escape and they will get more time, plus have to do the time they got before.  I don't understand what they were thinking, but obviously not too smart.  :wc13:

They were lucky to have gotten into the boot camp program in the first place, dumb move !!!

I've heard that crazy things happen in their minds as the end of their sentence nears. The anticipation of release is too much. We are near the end and we still keep our focus on visit to visit  otherwise it's still too much. The guy who escaped from Vandalia last year only had a short time left on his sentence as well.

The news just reported that they were found in a field one mile from prison at 9a.m. today.I don't understand why they would have done that.

Prison officials capture two escaped inmates in southern Illinois

Posted 5:23 am, December 7, 2015, by Associated Press

DIXON SPRINGS, Ill. (AP) – Two escaped inmates from a southern Illinois prison have been captured. Jerrette Reed, 25, and Kevin Rivera, 20, were found in a field about a mile away. They were taken into custody without incident at around 9am. They will be transferred to a maximum security facility.

State prison officials say two inmates incarcerated on drug charges escaped the Dixon Springs Impact Incarceration Program in southern Illinois at around 5:50pm Sunday.

Reed is serving a three-year sentence on meth-related charges out of Randolph County. Rivera is serving a five-year sentence for the manufacture and delivery of cocaine out of Cook County.

The facility is located near the Kentucky border in Pope County.

:wc72: I agree with mah.....they didn't want out really....it's the only thing that make since.  Years ago a friend of ours  said her dad smoked pot in order not to be transferred to a minimum prison. He wanted to stay were he was because of his elderly mother .......she would not of been able to visit him. He did stay in that medium prison but he got more time and just 30 day seg. At the time I thought well how stupid was that...but now I think I understand what he did and why......she did pass before he got out.....just by a couple months.....but he did get a few more visits from her and was near his family when she passed.

geeeezzzzzz I made myself cry  :wc17:

That's sad, but I'm with smme, he would have way more to worry about from me than them.

But on the serious side, communication is the key, the young men should have had someone they felt that they could talk to who could have been the voice of reason for them. If they had that and still did it - ok, but everybody needs somebody they can talk to and if each other was all they had, then I could see how this could happen.
