Question about Transfers
« on: June 29, 2016, 12:34:36 PM »
Do the IDOC give the inmates 2 choices to pick on the transfer sheet but only consider one? My loved one pick 2 facilities (Lincoln & Danville) He was turned down for Lincoln because of bed space but Danville which has almost 60 beds open wasn't considered for him to transfer to so now he has to wait 6mos before he can put in again. Is there any alternative or paperwork he can file about this issue? Any info is welcomed and thanks

My L/O requested Graham and was transferred to Pinckneyville. I think he has to wait a year and request another transfer.

There are several things looked at when considering an inmate requested transfer. Bed space, as you know, but also the amount of time an inmate has to serve, the reason listed for transfer, inmate behavior/conviction, etc. Once a transfer request has been denied, the inmate must wait 6 months (a year at some facilities) before reapplying. He is welcome to file a grievance asking that his request be reconsidered, but that, most likely, will get nowhere.

Thanks for responding. He talk to the Warden so hopefully things get straighten out. He has no infractions, they have plenty of bed space at the prison he chose as a backup and he's down to his last 4 years. It was just strange how they gave him 2 options to choose from to transfer to and they told him his first option was a no because of bed space but didn't consider his 2nd option. He said he had to wait 6mos to put in for another transfer. 4mos to go lol
