Question about time served in county jail
« on: April 30, 2014, 08:04:11 AM »

Is each day served in cook county jail counted double the time being served? For example if someone did 30 days in county would it count as 60 days for time served or only 30 days?

No, if you are eligible for county time, you get one day for each day served, not two.

The judge has to put this in your MITTIMUS, sentencing paperwork.

Example: If the judge sentences you to 3 years at 50%, you then have to serve 1 1/2 years, minus anytime served in county, minus time earned in classes/programs/SSC, of course this is all IF you are eligible.

Oh ok thank you for your quick response. I was also wondering why some people think its counted as day-for-day in county?

Don't know, but that is not the case.. if you spend 3 months in county and IF eligible for that time, you get 3 months and that is all.  It isn't until you get to IDOC and depending on the amount of time and % you are sentenced, do you get more.

Some people are sentenced at 100% 85% 75% 50% so everyone may be facing a different amount of time inside.

Maybe the "day for day" that you are referring to is meant to mean that there is one day credit for one day served. If eligible of course.
